Consensys Acquires Web3Auth to Enhance MetaMask’s UX
Consensys has acquired Web3Auth to significantly improve MetaMask’s user experience, security, and developer ecosystem.
The deal, announced June 2, 2025, addresses the fact that around 35% of users fail to back up their seed phrases, leading to lost funds. By integrating Web3Auth’s embedded wallet SDK and key‑management infrastructure, MetaMask will support social and device‑based recovery instead of relying solely on seed backups.
MetaMask’s developers and app builders will benefit from deeper integrations, including with Infura and the Delegation Toolkit, promoting faster and more seamless onboarding. Consensys emphasised that this acquisition aligns with its mission to make web3 “universally accessible” by providing frictionless user onboarding and stronger, user‑centric security features.
MetaMask co‑founder Dan Finlay described the move as making blockchain interactions nearly invisible until users consciously engage, which supports the broader progression toward account and chain abstraction for gasless, cross‑chain workflows. The phased rollout will begin with developer tools and SDKs, later expanding to mobile and browser versions with Web3Auth-powered multi-factor authentication and native accents toward non-EVM chains.

Symbiotic’s Relay SDK for Multichain Stake Verification
Symbiotic has unveiled Relay, a new middleware SDK designed to break down multichain silos by enabling Ethereum-staked assets to verify outcomes on any EVM-compatible chain.
Until now, developers faced a choice between building on a single chain or deploying complex multichain infrastructure — choices that often resulted in centralized compromises. Relay removes this friction by allowing protocols to “stake once, verify anywhere,” fostering native multichain coordination without extra trust assumptions.
Relay achieves this through two key innovations:
- Efficient validator set verification: Leveraging BLS and zk-cryptography, Symbiotic keeps on‑chain verification costs constant regardless of validator count.
- Native multichain settlement: Ethereum staking logic is separated from execution chains, enabling shared cryptoeconomic security across multiple environments.
This means developers can build decentralized bridges, oracles, settlement layers, and rollups that are truly trustless and unified, without relying on multisig or proof-of-authority models. Users benefit from a streamlined experience, free from chain hopping or gas‑token tracking overhead.
As of June 2025, Symbiotic supports over $1 billion in TVL across 15 networks and is now expanding Relay to dozens more.
With multichain development now a majority practice — 34% of active developers work across chains compared to just 10% in 2015 — Symbiotic Relay emerges as critical infrastructure unlocking the next wave of cryptoeconomic innovation.

Bectra Upgrade Empowers Berachain with Smart Accounts
Berachain has announced the activation of the Bectra upgrade on its mainnet, becoming the first EVM-compatible Layer 1 after Ethereum to implement the Pectra execution-layer enhancements.
This upgrade brings programmable smart accounts through EIP-7702, validator withdrawals at the execution layer via EIP-7002, and improved support for high-throughput use cases such as rollups and data-heavy decentralised applications, based on EIP-7840.
The introduction of smart accounts means users can now batch transactions, set spending limits, schedule payments, and sponsor gas costs directly in $HONEY without needing separate contract deployments. Validators gain the ability to exit and rebalance more efficiently, while rollup-centric improvements help lower data and calldata costs, benefiting applications that require frequent and large-scale transactions.
Additional technical improvements include native BLS precompiles, better access to historical block hashes, and updated fee logic for network transactions. All new features have been built to maintain backward compatibility, allowing existing applications to continue operating without interruption or migration.
The Bectra upgrade is designed to strengthen Berachain’s Proof-of-Liquidity model, enhance user and developer experience, and reinforce Berachain’s role as a next-generation, execution-focused blockchain ecosystem.
PillarX Launches as Chain-Abstracted Successor to Pillar Wallet

Pillar Project has announced the soft launch of PillarX, a full-stack upgrade to Pillar Wallet powered by Etherspot’s account and chain-abstraction SDKs.
Positioning the product as an “all-in-one portal to Web3,” the team is granting early access only to existing Pillar Wallet users and waitlist participants, with a broader rollout promised after feedback from this soft launch cohort. There is still time to join the waitlist to get early access to the platform.
Built around speed, modular security, and cross-chain functionality, PillarX replaces separate dApp dashboards with an integrated Web3 App Store. It’s more than just a dApp explorer — all dApps are embedded directly into PillarX, allowing users to interact with them without ever leaving the platform.
An Action Bar consolidates everyday tasks such as sending tokens and accessing dApps into a single tap, while a batching engine lets users combine multiple on-chain actions into one transaction, trimming gas and confirmation time.
The platform is designed to offer powerful tools that will enhance the trading experience significantly. Advanced trading features will be available following the main launch.
Furthermore, it’s fully compliant with EIP-7702. Users will be able to seamlessly connect their key-based EOAs and access smart wallet functionality — no separate deployment required.
By fusing account abstraction with chain abstraction, PillarX aims to deliver a faster, simpler, and more modular Web3 experience across both mobile and desktop, reinforcing Pillar’s commitment to user-centric wallet innovation.
Openfort Launches Provider-Agnostic SDK for Universal Wallet Creation
Openfort has announced the release of its Ecosystem SDK, a modular and provider-agnostic wallet framework designed to enable global wallet creation using any smart account provider, authentication method, or infrastructure.
The new SDK allows developers to mix and match the best available tools in the ecosystem, including popular solutions like Safe smart accounts, Rhinestone passkey modules, and Pimlico AA infrastructure, with no vendor lock-in.
The framework emphasises true flexibility, supporting a variety of authentication methods, such as passkeys, social login, or email, and is compatible with any infrastructure stack, including bundlers, paymasters, and RPC providers.
Openfort demonstrated this versatility with a live deployment on Base using ConnectKit and RainbowKit wallet libraries, but noted that any component can be swapped for another preferred provider, underlining the SDK’s modular design.
For developers, the new SDK simplifies integration by removing the need to learn multiple provider-specific SDKs. It also makes it easier to experiment with emerging providers and deploy globally, as well as to future-proof applications by supporting evolving standards in authentication, bundling, and security models. Installation is streamlined via npm, and all integrations rely on consistent Openfort APIs across the stack.
XDC Network Hits Six-Year Mainnet Milestone
XDC Network, an enterprise-grade Layer 1 blockchain by XinFin, is celebrating the six-year anniversary of its mainnet launch on June 1, 2019, and eight years since inception.
The network has processed over 801 million transactions across 89 million blocks, supports 261 validator nodes, and hosts roughly 178,000 smart contracts.
In September 2024, XDC deployed its XDC 2.0 upgrade, which enhanced protocol security, performance, and developer tooling. The update introduced support for Solidity 0.8.23, integrated LayerZero for cross-chain OFT token transfers, and implemented account abstraction via Etherspot to enable seamless, gasless decentralized app interactions.
The ecosystem’s transparency and usability were further improved with the launch of XDCScan.io V2, powered by OpenScan, and the addition of Etherscan’s explorer. Private infrastructure can be spun up using the XDC Subnet framework within ten minutes, targeting enterprise and government use cases.
This anniversary marks more than network longevity; it underscores XDC Network’s maturation into an enterprise-focused infrastructure with real-world use cases, spanning tokenization, cross-chain interoperability, and frictionless user experiences powered by account abstraction.
Etherspot’s integration plays a key role in enabling developers to provide Web2-like UX on XDC.
